If you like to make and send greeting cards, you are going to LOVE this organization idea for them. We find that we have so many different ones for a variety of occasions that then when it’s time to send one out, it can be tough finding just the right one without digging through them all. This project eliminates that issue and keeps them neat and organized!

Card Organization

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Import the fonts and cut files downloaded from Makers Gonna Learn into Design Space.
  2. We are working with Basic Shapes today. The box we’re working with fits A2-sized cards perfectly. So, we’re making dividers for it using some rectangles. Grab a square, unlock it, and size it to the size you need for the divider. In our case, we’re using the size 4.25 x 5.5”.
  3. Grab another square. This is going to be the tab for the divider. You want to make sure that 3 of these will fit across the top of your dividers. The size we liked for ours was 1.38 x 0.907”.
  4. Duplicate the large rectangle so that you have 3 of them. Duplicate the small rectangle so that you have 3 of them as well.
  5. For the first divider, place your small rectangle at the top of the large one over to the left. Select both of these layers and choose Align, Left. This will ensure they are perfectly lined up. Select both again and Weld.
  6. For the second divider, repeat this, only use Align, Center Horizontally instead of Align, Left. Once again weld those two together.
  7. For the third divider, it’s the same process again, only you will use Align, Right.
  8. Open a text box and type in the words you want to put and select the font you want to use. You can change the spacing of the letters by using Letter Spacing. Size your labels to fit the tabs. We also made a larger one saying Cards for the whole box in general.
  9. You will need to create small white rectangles to fit the divider tabs for each of your words (the one saying Cards will be sized to fit the slot on the front of the box). Click both the rectangle and the word that goes on it to select them both. Click Flatten. Repeat for each of the labels.
  10. Go ahead and click Make It and print your labels. Once printed, place your printed labels onto your cutting mat. Load it into your machine to cut. Choose Heavy Cardstock for your material setting.
  11. For each of the tabbed dividers, load a piece of cardstock onto your cutting mat, choose for your material setting, load the mat into the machine, and cut.
  12. Pop the Cards label into the slot on the front of the box. For the other labels, you can glue them to the tabs and you’re all finished!

This is an absolutely amazing gift idea that you are going to want to make not only for Christmas but any time of the year. It’s the perfect way to present a gift card to someone special and add that handmade touch to it. Many other uses too – instead of a gift card, write a note, attach a photo, or include a packet of seeds!

  • Scoring Stylus or Scoring Wheel
Design Space Gift Card Holder 1

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Download the cut files from Makers Gonna Learn and import them into Cricut Design Space so you can start manipulating them. With our 3D cut files, there are just a few steps that need to be taken to get them ready.
  2. The first step is to go to the Layers Panel and find the line going around part of the green “box” section.
  3. Now, go up to the top menu and over to the left, find Linetype.
  4. Open the dropdown menu there and change the line type from Cut to Score.
  5. Next, you need to Ungroup. Select everything in your design and click Ungroup at the bottom of the Layers Panel.
  6. Once that is done, select both the score layer and the green layer in the Layers Panel. Once you’ve selected one, you can hold down the Shift Key and click on the next layer to select them both. Click Attach in the menu at the bottom of the Layers panel.
  7. Once attached, select all layers and group them. Size the cross of ribbons and the bow appropriately. Tip for sizing the bow. Use the piece at the bottom as your guide for sizing.
  8. Now they are ready, so go ahead and click Make It. Cricut will separate the different colors onto different mats. Then click Continue.
  9. Make sure the material is set to medium cardstock and give more pressure.
  10. Remember that for the green layer, you will need to do some scoring. If it tells you to use the Scoring Wheel and you’d prefer to use the Scoring Stylus, simply go into Edit Tools and select the stylus there.
  11. If we have the Scoring Stylus in Clamp A and the Fine Point Blade in Clamp B, we’ll be all set for cutting and scoring. If you’re using the Scoring Wheel, you will have to change blades during the cutting/scoring process.
  12. Cut out your materials.
  13. Use your bone folder to crease the fold lines.
  14. Use the ATG gun to apply adhesive to the folded pieces to assemble your pocket and then to apply the ribbon (cross) to the green folder.
  15. For the bow, start with the biggest piece. Add a tiny bit of hot glue to the center rectangular piece. Then grab one of the rectangles on either side of the bow piece and curve that side towards the middle, securing with that dot of hot glue.
  16. You should end up with the rectangle from the outer side of the bow matching up with the one in the center.
  17. Repeat with the other side of the bow piece. You are basically folding each side of the bow towards the middle but you don’t actually want to make a crease. You want to keep it curved and dimensional.
  18. Repeat with the next ribbon piece (it looks just like the largest one but it’s smaller in size).
  19. Flip the glued pieces over so that the seam is to the back. Add a dot of hot glue to the middle of the biggest ribbon piece and stack the smaller one on top of it.
  20. Hot glue these pieces onto the backing piece. Use the small rectangular piece that’s left as a band to wrap around the center of the bow and hot glue to secure.
  21. Use a dab of hot glue to attach the bow to the gift cardholder.

24 Easy Cricut Cards

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Measure the size of the card you’ll be making.
  2. Import the cut files you’ll be using into Design Space. In this case, our file is a Print then Cut.
  3. Grab a square and size it for the card base. You will need to unlock it so that you can make it into a rectangle the size of your card.
  4. Then, we’re using this same method to grab another rectangle to create a front panel for the card. These shapes will give you an idea of how to appropriately size your design so that it fits your card perfectly.
  5. Move the cut file over to the square, size it, and arrange it the way how you want it to. Use Align to center it on your card.
  6. Once happy with your design, click both the design layer and the layer for the front panel of your card in the Layers Panel, and choose Flatten.
  7. Go ahead and click make it then send it to the printer. Remember that Cricut will add registration marks around your design. These are what your Cricut will read with its sensors so it can cut out your design properly.
  8. Once finished printing, place your printed design on your cutting mat. Insert it into your Cricut machine and have it cut out.
  9. Now, you can use your ATG gun to glue your card components together.
  10. On some of our cards, we have used things like Glitter Glue and Glossy Accents to take them to the next level. You can also embellish the edges of your paper using various types of scissors like Pinking Shears or by using a paper distresser.

Supply Links:

  • Cricut Explore Air 2

  • Zig 2 Way Glue Pen
  • Glitter Cardstock

  • Rainbow Cardstock
  • Scoring Stylus or Scoring Wheel
  • Bone Folder

Christmas Cards

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Upload the cut file into Cricut Design Space and add it to your canvas.
  2. The first thing you need to do is Ungroup.
  3. Then, select the cut lines, go up to Linetype, and from the dropdown menu, select Score.
  4. Select the card layer and the scoreline layer and Attach.
  5. Next, we need to separate the snow globe and the snowman from the rest of the card because we don’t want them to cut out of the same cardstock. So, to do this, choose a basic shape to cover each element.
  6. Starting with the snowglobe, cover it with your basic shape. Then select the basic shape layer and the layer where the snowglobe is and choose Slice (bottom right).
  7. Delete the layers you don’t need. Repeat with the snowman.
  8. Make a copy of your card so we can do some more slicing. Using a couple of basic shapes (we used rectangles), cover up each of the side panels on the card. We’re slicing and removing everything except that center panel.
  9. Make that center panel a little bit smaller so it fits on the center of the card with a little edge showing all around. This is going to be the card liner.
  10. We used the font Naomi to create the card sentiment. Naomi comes with glyphs that you can add for the swirls and curly cues on the letters. To use glyphs, you will need a program like Inkscape or Illustrator, so instead, we have created a cut file of the words Tis the Season using Naomi and the glyphs for you to make it easier.
  11. Once you have sized the sentiment to fit your card, you want to change the color so it cuts on its own mat. You will need to Weld the sentiment before cutting to keep the letters together and in order.
  12. You’re ready to go ahead and click Make It. It’s always a great idea to check your mats to make sure it all looks right before cutting. Once you do, press Continue.
  13. Select your material – Medium Cardstock. Load each mat one at a time to cut out each color of cardstock.
  14. Fold your card along the score lines, creating creases with your bone folder.
  15. Use your ATG to adhere the liner to the center of the card. Then attach the snow globe and the snowman and all of his features. Note that it does matter which direction the pieces go – there IS a front and a back. We’re using the Zig glue for the tiny pieces instead of the ATG for the best results.
  16. We like using reverse tweezers for placing those small pieces too. It makes it so much easier!

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Import the cut files and fonts to Design Space. We will be working on them one by one.
  2. Start by grabbing a square and size it to what you need for your card base. We have changed ours to white so that we can truly visualize what our completed project will look like.
  3. Now, move the bear over to the white square. Select it and choose to Send to Front. Size it so it will fit perfectly.
  4. We’re going to remove the sentiment under the bear. Move it back off the rectangle. Pull in a square and size appropriately to cover the sentiment. Select both the bear layer and the square layer and choose Slice. Now the sentiment is separate from the bear and you can delete it.
  5. Now the bear layer is done, so now you can work on the banner. Begin by ungrouping it and then you can choose which banner you want to use from there. Move it over to the bear layer and size it..
  6. Next is the heart layer. Move it over to the bear layer and arrange where you want to put it. Don’t forget to use “Bring to Front” if it’s behind your bear!
  7. Lastly, open a text box and type in the words you will be putting. Then select the font you want to use. We are doing one word at a time, each in its own text box. This makes it so much easier to curve. Size your words and curve them to fit into the banner.
  8. When you are satisfied with how it looks, go ahead and click Make It and send it to your printer to print.
  9. When it’s done printing, transfer it to the mat and load it into the machine to cut. Make sure you have changed the material setting in Design Space to Medium Cardstock.
  10. After it’s cut, you can now apply them to the cardstock. We added Glossy Accents to the heart to make it really stand out.

Easy Cricut Card For Beginners Diy Cricut Birthday Card 300x296 1

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Download the fonts from Makers Gonna Learn, unzip the files and install on your computer.
  2. Grab a square from Basic Shapes and size it to the size of the card you want to make. In this tutorial it’s A2, so the size is 8.5”x5.5”. Duplicate the sized square because you need 2 of them – one for the front and one for the back.
  3. Next, we need a rectangle for the folded part in the middle of the card. Get a square again, unlock it, and size it. For our card, we need 2 pieces that are each 8.5”x5.5” and 1 that is 8”x5.5”. Place each of these rectangles sides by side. We are making these white for better visualization.
  4. Next, we’re grabbing a rectangle to help us line up our score lines perfectly. These need to be 4” by 5.25” each. Place one of these on one of the white rectangles. Now, you can go to Shapes and grab a score line. Add it to your white rectangle. Select both the white rectangle and the score line and choose Weld.
  5. Click the text button on the left and type in the text you want for the card. Change it to your desired font. Now move the text over to the rectangle that will be the front of your card and go up to the top where it says Align and choose Center on the drop-down menu. After that, go up to the top where it says Line Space to adjust the text as desired.
  6. Grab another text box and following the same technique as above, type in the first letter of the word HOORAY. Continue letter by letter until the whole word is completed, placing them in their proper spots as you go. You can change the colors of these letters if you’d like.
  7. Go ahead and click Make It and change the material size to 8.5”x11”. Next, set the material to the Kraft Board. Click Edit Tool and choose the tool you want to score with. If you have a Maker, it will automatically choose the double scoring wheel.
  8. Since we’re using the Scoring Stylus, we have chosen this. Next, we need to put our stylus into our machine in Clamp A.
  9. Put the white cardstock on the mat and then load it into the machine and cut. When it’s done cutting, flip the mat over and peel it away from the cardstock. Repeat until the entire card is cut out.
  10. Take the pieces of cardstock that form the center part of the card and fold them on the score lines. Use a bone folder for perfect creases.
  11. When the vinyl is done cutting, you can unload it from the machine and weed it. Next, apply the transfer tape and adhere your design to the cardstock. Peel away the transfer tape.
  12. You can put together the white cardstock using the ATG gun. Then, attach the white cardstock to the brown cardstock (the front and back) with the ATG gun.
  13. For the letters that go on the white cardstock, those can also be applied using the ATG gun. What a fun card this makes!

  1. Download the font from the Makers Gonna Learn website. Then, unzip it and install it on your computer so you can easily search for it in the design space.
  2. Go to Design Space and grab a square from the Shapes button on the left. You can size it the same size as the base of the card you will be making. This will help you to visualize how much space you have to work with and size your design accordingly. For this tutorial, we used 8.5″x5.5″. (This is so that once it’s folded, it will be 4.25”x5.5”).
  3. Go back to the Shapes button on the left and grab a scoreline. Place it on your rectangle. You need to size it the same as the height of the card base. Next, select both layers, choose Align, Center. Now, select both layers again and Attach (bottom of the Layers Panel).
  4. Next, make the liner for the card. Duplicate the card base. Then, change the duplicate to a different color so that it cuts on a different mat then the base. We like to use the colors that match the colors of our finished project because this helps with the visualization of what the completed card will look like.
  5. Since we duplicated it, the scoreline is already there. So now, we just need to size the liner down a bit so it fits nicely on the card base with a bit of a border showing.
  6. Next, we are going to make the decorations for the front of the card. We are using 3 rectangles. Grab a square from Basic Shapes and resize it until you’re happy with how it fits on the card. You can either eyeball it or do the math. Remember that you’re going to want some space in between each of the rectangles. We are using the measurements 1.3”x5.3”.
  7. Once you have one of the rectangles sized appropriately, duplicate it twice. Change the colors of the rectangles to 3 different colors so that once again, they will be placed on different mats.
  8. To be able to visualize the layout and sizing properly, choose all 3 of the rectangles and then select Align, Distribute Horizontally. Select again and choose Align, Top or Bottom.
  9. Grab another square from the Shape button on the left and size it – we’re using 3.5″x1.3″. Then, change the color if you want to. We’re making ours white. This is going to go horizontally across our 3 vertical rectangles near the bottom of the card.
  10. Duplicate that rectangle and change the size to 3.25”x1.6”. Change the color of this one to match the color of the card base. Place it behind the white rectangle by selecting the white rectangle and then choosing Arrange, Send to Front.
  11. Open a text box and type in your chosen text. Change the font to whatever you want and then kern your font by decreasing the Letter Spacing. You can also Ungroup and then move one letter at a time but we find it easier to use Letter Spacing first. Often that will be all you need, but then if there are one or two letters that need a bit more adjusting, you can always fix those.
  12. Move the text inside the white layer and size it to fit. You could cut the text out of vinyl, but we’re going to use a pen and draw the text on. Select the text and go up to the top where it says Line Type and choose Draw on the drop-down menu. (NOTE: It is recommended to use a thinner font when you want the text to be drawn line instead of cut line).
  13. Select the text and the white layer. Then, go down to the bottom right below the Layers Panel and press Attach. (NOTE: 3rd party fonts do not fill the inside so you can use a pen to fill in when it’s printed if you want.)
  14. Click Make It. Check all of your mats to make sure they are correct. Also, make sure that your material sizes are correct. For example, our brown cardstock is only 8.5”x11” so you need to choose that on the dropdown menu just under the mat.
  15. Click continue and connect to your machine. Then, set the material to heavy cardstock. Press Edit Tools and select Scoring Stylus instead of Scoring Wheel if using that like we are.
  16. Your machine will prompt you as to which tools you need and when. First, we need to load our Fine Point Blade and our Scoring Stylus.
  17. Load your mat with your cardstock for the first mat. Load the mat into the machine and press the flashing Cricut button. Once it has scored the cardstock, remove the Scoring Stylus and replace it with the Cricut pen. Do not remove the mat from the machine! Press the flashing Cricut button again.
  18. Remember to keep an eye on Design Space. It’s going to prompt you and tell you when it’s time for each of these steps.
  19. Unload the mat from the machine. Flip your mat upside down and slowly peel away the mat from the cardstock. Repeat with each of the different cardstocks until you have them all cut (and scored as needed).
  20. It’s time to assemble the card. First, you need to fold the base card and the liner along the score line in the middle using your bone folder to crease them.
  21. Assemble the card as it was laid out in Design Space, using the ATG gun to glue the pieces together. Glue the white card to the brown piece, but don’t attach that to the card just yet.
  22. After that, the last thing to do is take the embroidery floss and cut three strands. Line the 3 strands up and then wrap them around the white/brown cards and tie a little bow. Glue this onto the card using the ATG gun.
