Cricut Halloween Lanterns

September 20, 2022 by Paula W

Aren’t these Halloween lanterns fun? They’re such a great decoration for Halloween – perfect on your table, mantel, or front porch. They’re much easier to make than you might think and the frosted glass panes take this project to the next level.

Dancing Spiders

Supply Links:

  • Lanterns
  • Masking Paper Transfer Tape
  • Black Matte Vinyl 12”x12”
  • Pouncer
  • Painters
  • Folkart Frost Effect
Boo Lanterns

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Download the dancing spider font on your computer. Make sure to unzip the file and install the font.
  2. Measure the glass pane you’ll be using for the project because this dimension is what you will be using in Design Space to visualize how much space you have to work with. Pull in a square from Basic Shapes to create a rectangle the size of the pane of glass. Duplicate so that you have 3 panes in total.
  3. In Design Space, set the font to Dancing Spider and grab a text box. Type in BOOL. (We’re using the L so we can grab one of the spiders).
  4. Choose one of the letters for visualization purposes. Size according to the size of one of the panes of glass. Then, select your entire text and choose Ungroup.
  5. Grab a square and put it on top of the letter L. Next,  select both of the L and the square and press Weld. Now that they are welded, you can contour. Choose Contour and then contour out the parts you don’t need. In this tutorial, we only need the spider with the web so leave those and contour out the rest.
  6. Size and position the spider on the second O so that it is hanging down from the web. Select both the O and the spider and choose Weld.
  7. Click Make It. Be sure your material is set to Premium Vinyl. If your blade is new and sharp, you can leave the pressure into default or you can select more if it isn’t.
  8. Now load your vinyl into the machine and cut. Once you have cut and weeded the vinyl, you can apply transfer tape to it.
  9. Now you want to make a bow. Grab some ribbon and a pipe cleaner to make as many bows as you’d like to use.
  10. Be sure to clean the glass of the lantern with alcohol. This will allow for a better application of the vinyl so it sticks well.
  11. Using the Folk Art Frost and a foam pouncer, frost the glass panes of the lantern. Be sure to put down masking tape around the edges of the lantern to protect it from frost. Let it dry for a few seconds and remove the masking tape.
  12. Next, apply your vinyl designs to the lantern. Burnish. Remove the transfer tape. Once you’ve applied all of the vinyl, you can add your bow(s).

  7. Crease all of the score lines on the box.
  8. Measure the side panels of your box where the circles are sliced from.
  9. Using a paper trimmer cut your craft plastic to fit on that panel.

  8. Allow HTV to cool and remove the HTV carrier sheet
  9. Working on the felt headpiece, use hot glue to glue the long side and one short side of the rectangular stem piece.
  10. Use a wire cutter to cut florist wire to twice the length of the stem.
  11. Fold the wire in half and twist.
  12. Place twisted wire in glued stem and then fill the stem with poly fiber fill until nice and fluffy.
  13. Pinch/fold the bottom of the stem in a cross-like shape and hot glue to the center of the felt circle
  14. Place a small amount of glue at the base of each felt leaf and pinch until the glue is dried to create a puckered/3d effect with leaves.
  15. Arrange leaves on the felt circle around the base of the stem. Hot glue leaves to the base.
  16. Once dry, bend the wire in the stem to create a cute curved stem.
  17. Attach the finished strawberry top to an elastic, a headband, or a hair clip.

Fall Luminaries Made With Cut Files From Makers Gonna Learn

Fall Mason Jar Luminaries

We used the Morning Pumpkin, Always Thankful, and Nuts about Fall cut files for these luminaries. We manipulated and contoured the files so that we were using only the outline shapes and not the words. We placed the vinyl shapes onto the jars and painted the jars with chalk paint.

Remove the vinyl and you’ve got these great clear glass parts for the light to shine through. To hide and diffuse the light a bit, we placed some vellum inside each jar. A little raffia around the tops of the jars and you’re all done! They’re so stinkin’ cute!

Stressed Blessed Pumpkin Spice Obsessed Cut File From Makers Gonna Learn

Pumpkin Spice Obsessed Wooden Sign

We just cut a piece of wood to size and then applied one of our exclusive to Makers Gonna Learn patterned iron-on designs. Then, we took a piece we cut from a burlap place mat we picked up at Walmart for only $1 and ironed on our Stressed, Blessed, Pumpkin Spice Obsessed cut file.

Finally, we used hot glue to place the burlap on top of the patterned vinyl to complete our sign. We just love the way this turned out!

Please Just Take One Cut File From Makers Gonna Learn

Please Just Take One Sign for Trick or Treaters

This little sign comes from Chalk Couture. If you know anything about their products, you know that vinyl loves to stick to them. We typed out these words with our Westly font to make a fun sign perfect for Halloween night.
