  • White Chalky Finish Paint

Dog Lover Home Decor With Cricut How To Apply Vinyl On Wood 300x294 1

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Make sure to measure the size of the knob and the wood sign so that when working in Design Space you can size your designs appropriately to the size of your surface materials.
  2. Import the cut files downloaded from Makers Gonna Learn into Design Space.
  3. We pulled in a square from Basic Shapes and sized it to represent the size of the sign we are making.
  4. Next, we added a smaller square and sized it to represent the size of the dog head knob.
  5. We could duplicate our Life is Better file and then use Contour to contour out the dog paw to make space for the knob. However, this might not leave us enough space for the knob.
  6. If that doesn’t work, you can use Slice instead. We are going to use a rectangle (an unlocked and resized square) to cover the entire word “dog” (which includes the paw). Highlight both the rectangle and the cut file layers and select Slice.
  7. Delete the layers that you don’t need. Now you’ve got “Life is better with a” separate from the word “dog”.
  8. Use another rectangle and this time, using the same technique as before, you want to slice the dog paw out of the word “dog”.
  9. Now you can size your design to fit the square representing your sign. Put both pieces onto the square and arrange them. Then, select Align, Center Horizontally. Next, click Attach to hold the pieces together.
  10. Make sure the knob is going to fit between the D and the G. When you are happy with your design, click Make It.
  11. Select your material and if your blade isn’t new, you might want to give it more pressure too.
  12. Place your vinyl on your mat and load it into your Cricut machine. Let the machine cut your design out.
  13. After cutting, burnish your vinyl to the mat with your scraper tool. We like to use our Cricut TruControl knife to trim away the excess unused vinyl. Then, using our weeding tool (and the Pin Pen tool for the smaller pieces), we weed away the unneeded vinyl.
  14. Once you have finished weeding, place a piece of transfer tape over your design. Burnish.
  15. Now you can apply the design to your sign. Burnish once more and remove the transfer tape.
  16. Attach your dog head knob and your sign is all finished!

Step-by-step Instructions:

1.     Upload your files into Cricut Design Space as Print then Cut images. You can hide the ones that you aren’t currently using in your design as needed to make space on your canvas.
2.     Working with the bodies first, grab a square, unlock, and resize it to fit over the body you want to use.
3.     Select both the body and the rectangle and choose Slice. Delete the unneeded slice results.
4.     Repeat for any other bodies you need.
5.     Using the same technique, slice out the arms that you need.
6.     You’ll also need to slice off the arms currently on the bodies if you want to replace them with new arms.
7.     Find the clothing that you want to place on the bodies and use the same Slice technique to cut it out. Layer it over the body.
8.     Choose the hair you want each person to have, slice it out, and add it to the bodies.
9.     Take your time as you layer these elements. You may need to move them forwards and backward, resize them, and line them up a few times as you go to get your design just right.

  1. You can also add some accessories and pets to the background you have chosen for your family. Once again, you will simply slice them out of the file and place them onto that background.
  2. Be sure to size the background to fit your chosen frame. Then, you want to make sure that the family and all the accessories and other elements fit well onto that background.
  3. When you have everything placed and lined up as you’d like it, select all layers and Flatten.
  4. Click Make It to send it to your printer. Be sure it’s set to Add Bleed.
  5. After printing, place your printed design in the top left corner of your cutting mat and load it into your Cricut machine to cut it out.
  6. Place the image in your frame.

DIY Cricut Prayer Box Project

March 11, 2021 by Paula W

You are going to love this DIY Cricut Prayer Box Project we have for you today. This was made using some of the new cut file releases from our Member Requested Files for March. Now, you might be wondering what exactly a prayer box is.

This is a lovely way to be able to keep track of your prayer requests. You can add who and what you want to pray for into the box and when you’re ready to sit down and talk to God, you’ve got them right there so you don’t forget anything. Not only that, but it is a great way then to look back at the requests and see just how God has been moving in your life and answering those prayers.

Another great way to use this is if you’re working on memorizing Scripture verses. Simply write them down and place them in the prayer box. You can then use the cards as flashcards – it’s a fantastic technique for committing Bible verses to heart.

5.Select the MGL FAITH 3 cut file (Eat, Sleep, Pray, Repeat). Contour or Slice the cut file so that each line is a separate layer. Once each line is separate, decrease the line spacing so that each line is almost touching. Select the 4 lines/layers and weld together

6.Place the newly welded image on top of the floral background that was created in step 4 and size to fit

7.Select both layers and flatten to create a print then cut image

8.Working on the lid’s inside decal, select the retro floral cut file and duplicate. Place the two cut files side by side creating a landscape oriented repeating pattern and then weld to create one layer. Change the color of the cut file to your desired color

9.Working with only one of the rectangles created in step 3 for the inside of the lid, place rectangle on top of the retro floral pattern and slice. Delete the slice results  you do not need.

16. Select the grouping and both text boxes and flatten to create a print then cut image.

17.working on the cards that fit inside the bottom of the tin, select the retro floral cut file (you will need to insert the cut file again into your canvas). Duplicate the cut file and place one layer above the other creating a portrait oriented repeating pattern. Weld the two layers together and change the color to your desired color

18.Working with only one of the rectangles created in step 3 for the inside of tin bottom, place rectangle on top of the retro floral pattern and slice. Delete the slice results  you do not need.

19. Select the remaining rectangle sized for the inside of the tin bottom and change the color to your desired color.

20. Place rectangle behind the retro floral pattern, center and group together

21. Select prayer request file and place on top of grouping made in previous step and size

22. Select prayer request cut file and floral grouping and flatten to create a print then cut image.

completed prayer box that says Eat Sleep Pray Repeat

23. The prayer request cards will be cut out of cardstock and the other images for the inside and top of the lid will be cut out of printable vinyl. There is no way to let the cricut know this. It will want to place them all on the same sheet, so hide the prayer request card and then click make it.

24. Load printable vinyl in your printer and send image to your printer.

25. Once printed, place the printed vinyl on your standard grip mat lining it up in the top left corner

26. Load mat into cricut

27. In design space select printable vinyl and your material

28. Press the flashing cricut button

29. Once cut is complete, remove the mat from the machine and then remove the printable vinyl from your mat

30. Go back to your canvas in design space and hide the two images you just printed.

31. Unhide the prayer request card and duplicate to create as many cards as desired

32. Click Make It

32. Load cardstock in you printer and send image to your printer

33. Once printed placed the printed cardstock on your light grip mat lining it up in the top left corner

34. Load mat into cricut

35. In design space select kraft board (if using 120 lb cardstock) as your material setting

35. Press the flashing Cricut button.

36. Repeat steps 32-35 until all cards are cut

37. Carefully remove the stickers from your printable vinyl sheets and place in intended areas on the tin

38. Now we’re ready to apply the pom trimming. Using your trim, measure around the perimeter of the tin lid so that it fits all the way around. Cut the trim just a tiny bit longer than what you need so that you’re sure it will not leave a gap. (you can cut this off later)

39. Using your precision tip glue gun place a thin strip of glue around the lid where the pom trimming will go and adhere the trimming. (you may want to do this in small stirps instead of all at once so that your glue doesn’t dry before you can place the trim)

40. Place prayer request cards and mini pen in your tin.

We would love to see your finished prayer box. Please share them with us in the members only Facebook group!
