How to Use Cricut Scraps
We often get comments about how many scraps we have left after a Cricut project and whether those go to waste or not. Well, we are here to tell you that we use up every scrap of vinyl, HTV, and cardstock that we possibly can. Just like you, we love to craft, but we like to do so economically. It may seem that you can only make Cricut craft projects with large pieces of material, but that’s simply not true. There are so many crafts you can make with little bits and pieces, from gift tags to bookmarks to coasters and so much more.

Gift Tags:
Not only do these adorable gift tags use up some of those cardstock scraps, but they incorporate small pieces of leftover vinyl too. Pull out the scraps, make a batch of tags, and you’ll be all set for gift-giving whenever the occasion strikes. You can do some more generic tags saying Happy or I Love You or specific ones saying Happy Birthday or Thank You on them. There are so many possibilities!

Bookmarks:
There are many different kinds of bookmarks you can make using your scraps of cardstock along with a small piece of ribbon and some adhesive. With this particular layered design, you can use several different layers of cardstock to create a bookmark that is both beautiful and sturdy. We have many different bookmark designs available on our website.

These charming keychains are so easy to make. We have a full tutorial on how to make them using scrap pieces of vinyl and resin. They look store-bought and in fact, if you could easily make and sell these if you wanted to.

Mini Banners:
These mini banners made from cardstock scraps are so cute. They make a fun decoration, you can add them to a greeting card, or easily turn them into a cupcake topper. Join them together with some baker’s twine and add text to the flags with paper or vinyl. Again, just like with the gift tags, you can make a whole batch of these at once and save them for your next special occasion.

Paper Succulents and Flowers:
This is like combining your Cricut with some paper quilling techniques and you end up with these adorable paper succulents and flowers. They look more difficult to put together than they are and you can use up so many cardstock and paper scraps to make them.

Leather Earrings:
Small bits of leftover unique materials like leather and wood can be transformed into so many beautiful creations! Check out these trendy earrings we made with less than a 4 by 4 inch square piece.

Upcycled Notebooks:
Take a basic notebook and add something fun to it. We used shimmery gold foil scraps to take a plain notebook and turn it into a beautiful journal. We even added our word of the year on ours! You could use all kinds of vinyl or HTV scraps for this project. Check out the full tutorial here.

Coasters:
Coasters are small so it’s easy to turn them into something special using vinyl scraps (or HTV – did you know you can iron on many different materials like cork and wood?) The key to using scraps on any projects is to take a look at what scraps you have to work with. Then, look through your blanks or go browsing at Dollar Tree or somewhere like that to see what blanks you can find that you would like to use for a craft project. Once you have those items mapped out, it’s time to plan your design. Look through our website here at Makers Gonna Learn and you’ll find all kinds of designs that you can use for a wide variety of projects. We even have ones that are already designed and sized for coasters, DIY bookmarks, earrings, and so much more!

Geometric Wall Art:
Wall art? But that’s a large project! There’s no way we can use scraps for that! Think again. There are many different wall art projects that are a design made up of a variety of colors and even patterns of vinyl or HTV. We’ve go so many simple Cricut projects on our site that could easily be made with your vinyl and iron on scraps.

We hope these ideas have inspired you to use your paper, vinyl, heat transfer vinyl, and specialty material scraps to make something special. It’s a great way to make the most of your time and money when you’re crafting.
