Longitude & Latitude Painted Pillow

This Longitude & Latitude Painted Pillow is the perfect way to celebrate your favorite place or event. This is a beautiful piece of accent decor for your home or to give as a gift.

Our craft project here isn’t your typical iron-on pillow cover. We’re going to show you how to use a stencil and paint on a canvas pillow cover. It adds such a pretty touch to the design! The text was created using one of our fonts in our brand new March font collection!

Find the full step-by-step video tutorial here:

Instructions:

  1. Purchase or create an svg (in inkscape or illustrator) of the lake you are wanting to use.
  2. Visit www.latlong.net
  3. Enter the address for which you would like coordinates
  4. Open design space and import lake svg
  5. Add a basic shape that is the size of your pillow blank
  6. Size the lake svg to fit on your pillow and change the color of the layer to blue
  7. Using the MGL font “circles”, add a text box and the text “LIFE IS BETTER AT THE LAKE”. Size text to layered on top of the lake
  8. Add another text box (still using the Circles font). Refer back to latlong.net copy the coordinates and then paste in the text box in Design Space
  9. Size the coordinate text box to fit where you would like on your pillow
  10. Select both text layers and weld the layers together
  11. Press make it
  12. Move the lake cut file to be centered on your preview mat
  13. Move the text to be centered on your preview mat
  14. Select premium vinyl as your material setting
  15. Load mat with vinyl. Load mat in machine and press flashing cricut button.
  16. Unload mat and weed. (remember to remove the actual lake and letters/numbers instead of the excess around the cuts)
  17. Cover vinyl with transfer tape. Burnish the front
  18. Remove mat from vinyl. Burnish the back
  19. Repeat steps 15-18
  20. Using the lake stencil, remove backing
  21. Apply lake stencil in the center of the pillow
  22. Burnish and remove the transfer tape
  23. Make sure all vinyl has adhered well to pillow
  24. Using a paint brush and navy acrylic paint, dip the tip of your paint brush in the paint and begin covering the stenciled area with the navy paint. Use up and down motions to apply the paint. Make sure that you are not oversaturating so that paint does not seap underneath the stencil.
  25. Remove the stencil while the paint is still wet.
  26. Allow paint to dry. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to speed up the dry time
  27. Using the “life is better at the lake” stencil, remove backing
  28. Apply “life is better” stencil in the center of the pillow
  29. Burnish and remove the transfer tape
  30. Make sure all vinyl has adhered well to the pillow
  31. Using a paint brush and black acrylic paint, dip the tip of your paint brush in the paint and begin covering the stenciled area with theblack paint. Use up and down motions to apply the paint. Make sure that you are not oversaturating so that paint does not seap underneath the stencil.
  32. Remove the stencil while the pain is still wet
  33. Allow to dry.

We can’t wait to see your stenciled pillow projects. If you make one of these (or use it for inspiration for your own design), be sure to share in the member only Facebook group so we can see it too!
