Step-by-step Instructions:

Create stencil in design space using a 6″ circle and the MGL fonts “application” and “improvement”
Cut the stencil out of vinyl
Weed, add transfer tape and remove from the mat
Apply the stencil to wood round
Using scorch marker, completely fill-in stencil
Allow to dry and remove the stencil
Use a heat gun to apply heat to the stenciled area. Move heat gun around periodically until the dark “burnt” look is achieved
Stain wood round
Seal if desired

Yarn Rainbow Decor To Make With Your Cricut 300x296 1

Step-by-step Instructions:

Download the font from Makers Gonna Learn and then unzip the file and install it on your computer.
Grab a square on the Shapes button on the left and size it to 9.5 inches or whatever size works best for your project. Remember to measure the available space you have for creating your project and use that to create this square which will be used for visualization purposes.
Open a text box and type in the text you want. Change to your desired font. From here, you can size the text to fit your project accordingly.
Kern your text by selecting it and clicking Ungroup on the layers panel to the right so you can bring the letters closer together using Letter Spacing. When you are satisfied with it, select the text again and press Weld located at the bottom right under the Layers Panel.
Now, move the text over to the bottom part of the box below and arrange it to fit the way you want it. When you like how it looks, you can delete the box. Remember that you are going to need to leave enough space for the rainbow.
Click Make It and mirror your design since it’s going to be made using iron-on. Set the material to HTV.
Place your vinyl on the mat and then load the mat into the machine. Once the cutting is complete, weed your design.
You will want to have your frame already painted and stained and thoroughly dry before continuing. White heating the EasyPress, you can attach the backing to the frame using the staple gun.
Now place the HTV on the frame where you want it. Use your EasyPress to heat it and adhere it. Let cool for a few seconds and then peel away the transfer sheet.
Lay the white rope inside the frame to determine how long you need to cut the pieces to make the rainbow. It is recommended to cut the rope half an inch longer than you want just to give a little extra leeway to work with.
Wrap around some masking tape at one end to indicate where you want to begin wrapping the yarn. Use your first end as a guide to add masking tape to the other end as well.
For each of the other ropes, you can’t simply just make them the same length as the first one. Since it’s an arc shape, each of the inner ropes will get slightly smaller. So, lay the first one out in the arc shape, and then place more rope in an arc right underneath it. Cut to size. Repeat with each of the ropes. Be sure to wrap the ends in masking tape as you did with the first rope.
Important tip: We numbered each of the ropes on the masking tape so that we wouldn’t get confused later about which order they go in!
Take the wire and tightly wrap it around a piece of rope from one end to the other. After that, get the colored yarn and wrap it to cover the rope. Repeat with each of the ropes.
Attach the first and second yarn-covered rope using hot glue. Glue the 3rd and 4th ropes together using hot glue. Finally, glue the 3rd and 4th to the 1st and 2nd.
Remove the masking tape from the ends. Then, you can trim and fray them as desired.
Now, you can glue your rainbow into the frame above your text.

Step-by-step Instructions:

Grab the wooden beads you’ll be using and get the measurement of the surface. The size of the beads will be the same size you’ll be using and working within Design Space.
In the design space, grab a square and size it to match the measurements of the bead. This will help you visualize your project and size the text appropriately. We have rotated the square to match the diamond shape of the beads.
Open a text box and type in the letter you want for the baby’s initial. Change it to your desired font. Duplicate the square with the letter in it and then change the letter to the baby’s second initial. Select each letter and square, one at a time, and choose Align Center to help get the letters lined up perfectly if you’d like.
Select one square and one letter layer. Choose Slice. Delete the unneeded slice layers. We are doing this to create a stencil out of the vinyl. Do the same thing with your second letter.
Load some scrap vinyl onto your mat and load the mat into your machine to cut out your letters.
Go ahead and click “make it”. Once the cutting is done, you can unload the mat from the machine. Give it a little burnishing and then cut away the excess vinyl before you weed it. Place transfer tape over your weeded design and burnish.
Grab the beads and apply your letters. You might need to do a little burnishing again before peeling away the transfer tape.
Apply your acrylic paint to the cut-out letter area of your stencils. Let it dry for a few seconds and then peel off the vinyl stencil.
Once the paint has dried completely, you can give it a coat of polyurethane.
Now, grab the needle and some yarn and put the beads and rings together.. You can assemble it the way you want it to. When you are finished putting the pieces of the teething ring together, you can secure the end of the yarn using a lighter.

Upload cut file in design space
Get your measurements & size it up accordingly
If you plan to use Print & Cut HTV, go ahead & make your offset
Print your design. if you’re doing sublimation-be sure to print in your sublimation printer.
When using Print & Cut HTV, go ahead & iron on your printed design. If you’re using sublimation, make sure to cover your design with butcher paper when pressing with heat.
Start on your tutu. Be sure to measure your child’s waist.
Once you have your child’s measurements, start cutting your tulle into desired measurement amounts. I used 20″ strips.
Once tulle is cut into desired amounts & lengths, start looping them through your crochet headband.
Assemble your tutu till the desired amount of tulle is added.

Birth Stat Frame

This fun baby stat frame is made entirely of cardstock. It’s absolutely adorable and makes such a great baby gift using your Cricut machine.

There is quite a bit of Design Space work to this craft project so if you’re a Cricut beginner, you might want to get a little more experience under your belt before attempting this frame.

Step-by-step Instructions:

Insert a square-sized 10×10 inches. And duplicate 4 times (for a total of 5).
Insert a 5″ circle, 6″ circle, 7″ circle, and 8.5″ circle.
Select one circle and one square and center alight them. With both layers selected, slice the circle from the square. Delete the slice results.
Repeat step 3 for the remaining circles and squares-leaving one square without a sliced circle for the backing of your piece.
Arrange pieces on top of each other as follow from front to back (square with 8.5″ hole, square with 7″ hole, square with 6″ hole, square with 5″ hole, solid square).
Add a text box with the font “circles” selected. Insert several many-period punctuation marks. Curve the text so that it creates a circle and size to fit inside the 5″ cut-out (layer 4 from the front).. Make sure the periods touch the circle cut out all the way around. Weld the text box with layer 2
Insert two circles- one slightly smaller than the other. Center align the circles and slice the smaller one from the larger one. Delete the slice results and size the new shape to fit so that it intersects the middle of the periods from the layer made in step 6
Add a text box with the font “I’m Booked”. Type in text and curve and size to fit inside layer 4. Weld the layers from steps 6-8 to the 4th layer.
Add a text box and the font I’m Booked. Insert text and curve & size text to fit inside layer 3. Weld the curved text to layer 3.
Repeat steps 6-8 with your 2nd layer.
Repeat step 9 with your 1st layer.
Insert a photo of the child. Size to 5″ in width or height.
insert a 5″ circle and place it over the pictured child.
Slice the 5″ circle from the picture. Delete slice results.
Place the picture in the center of the 5th layer.
Click make it and follow the prompts in the design space until all the mats are cut.
Use the ATG gun to assemble each layer.

How to Screenprint with Vinyl

Looking to expand the way you use your die cutting machine? In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how to screenprint with vinyl and your Cricut machine. This can be the easiest way to create a large batch of items when you want the same design on each.

Are you making a bunch of onesies to sell in your shop? Or a set of t-shirts for a sports team? This is a great way to quickly and easily make multiples of the same design. And since you’ll be using a heat-set paint, this screenprinting method can give you one of the most long-lasting results.

A bonus to using this method means that you can add your design to cotton materials. In general, you can only sublimate on polyester, so this is a great alternative to that.

Pro Tip: There is a product which allows you to not only sublimate on cotton, but on dark fabrics as well. We show you just how to use it here: How to Sublimate Dark Fabrics

Materials Needed:

Speedball Screen 10×14 – we like to get a large one so we can use it for a variety of projects
Speedball Fabric Screen Printing Ink
Speedball Craft Fabric Squeegee, 9-Inch – remember, for the best results, you need a squeegee that is larger than the size of your design
Multi-Surface tape
Masking Paper Transfer Tape– you want a transfer tape that has the least amount of tack
Homegrown cut file

Instructions:

Homegrown And Vegetable Design In Cricut Design Space

Working in Design Space:

1 – Upload your chosen cut file into Cricut Design Space. We’re using our Homegrown cut file for our example. Since we’re using it for screenprinting, we only need a one-color design. So, with your file selected, press Weld.

2 – Size your design to fit your surface well. Add a rectangle and size it so that it’s large enough to cover the design and leave a margin all the way around it.

3 – Select both layers and choose Slice. Discard the unnecessary slice results until you are left with a rectangle with the Homegrown design cut out of it. This is going to be your stencil for screenprinting.

Reminder: You can only slice two layers at a time.

Cutting and Weeding Your Design:

4 – Press Make It. We recommend moving your design over a bit to allow for more space around it.

5 – Even though we are using regular vinyl for this project, since we’ll be screenprinting, you want to be sure to mirror your design. Press Continue and cut out your design.

Apply Transfer Tape To The Weeded Design

6 – Weed your design. Stick a piece of transfer tape to your shirt a couple of times to reduce the stickiness. Apply transfer tape to the design. Remove the backing.

Apply the Design to the Screen:

7 – Flip your screen to the back. Apply your design to the screen. You can use your hand on the back to apply pressure.

8 – Remove the transfer tape slowly. The vinyl may want to try lifting from the screen so just work carefully especially with any small parts of the design.

9 – Place the screen on your surface (in our case, a onesie).

Apply Painters Tape Around The Whole Design

10 – Apply painter’s tape all around the design so that you don’t get ink on any parts of the surface other than your design.

Screenprinting:

11 – Add a line of ink at the top of your design. Use a generous amount of screenprinting ink.

12 – Using the squeegee, spread the ink quickly over the design. Be sure that you have applied enough pressure for the screen to make contact with the onesie.

13 – Repeat for as many projects as you want to make!

Make an Explosion Box

We love these explosion boxes! If you want to learn how to make an explosion box, you will definitely want to check out this blog post and video. We’ll take you through the process step-by-step! This is a really fun way to use your Cricut machine to make a great gift for someone you appreciate!

These explosion boxes are such a special way to present a little gift to someone. Fill it with candy, money, or any other lightweight items you’d like. With ours, we have used them as a photo album/scrapbook, placing pictures and memorabilia (ticket stubs and so on) on each flap. One of our members suggested using an explosion box for a gender reveal. What a fantastic idea!

Make an Explosion Box

Gather up your supplies and follow along with our tutorial so you can make your own box. Remember, even though we made a Christmas themed box, you can make one for any occasion or theme you want by changing up the paper you use!

Cut The Sides Of The Box With A Craft Knife

Prepare the boxes:

1 – We do have a some box cut files available here at Makers Gonna Learn that you can use if you’d like, but we have found that the premade boxes are much sturdier for filling with candy. So, using a craft knife, cut down the sides of each box.

2 – Cover the cut edges with masking tape.

Use Tape Gun To Attach Paper To Box Flaps

3 – Measure the box flaps and cut your pieces of patterned paper to size. Attach them to both sides of the flaps using your tape gun.

Design Space With Photos And Snowflake Cut Files In It

Working in Design Space

4 – In Cricut Design Space, we uploaded the photos that we want to use. Size them to fit the flaps as you’d like. These will be a Print then Cut.

Snowflakes As Centers Of Dollar Bill Rosettes

5 – The little snowflakes in circles are the centers for our dollar bill rosettes. Upload the snowflake cut file into Design Space.

Add A Circle As The Background For The Snowflake

From the Shapes menu, add a circle. Place the snowflake on top of the circle. Use Arrange and Send to Front to bring the snowflake to the front of the circle. Size the snowflake to fit well in the circle. Select both layers and choose Align, Align Center.

6 – With both layers still selected, go down to the bottom of the Layers Panel and choose Flatten. That turns the snowflake and circle into a Print then Cut. Size them to fit onto the rosettes – we made ours 1.25 inches in diameter. Then you can duplicate them so you have enough for all of the rosettes.

Import The Tag Cut File Into Design Space

7 – Upload the tags cut file into Cricut Design Space.

8 – Use the eraser to erase away and delete the tags that you aren’t going to use.

9 – Add the remaining tag as a cut file to your canvas in Design Space.

10 – Add “Merry Everything” to the tag and size appropriately.

Cutting your design:

11 – Press Make It to print and cut the snowflakes and the photographs. Cut the Merry Everything from heat transfer vinyl and the tag from cardstock.

12 – Weed the HTV. Apply to the tag using your EasyPress Mini.

Use Accordion Fold To Fold Dollar Bills Into Rosettes

Putting it all together:

13 – To make the dollar bill rosettes, fold the dollar bill back and forth in an accordion fold. Secure in the middle with a piece of twine. Fan it out and join together with some tape.

14 – Add a snowflake to the front of the rosette. We suggest using a foam dot.

15 – Apply the photos to the middle layer of flaps.

16 – Wrap the chocolates in pieces of paper and use ribbon to wrap around the box. Attach a bow.

Glue The Wrapped Chocolates To The Smallest Flaps

17 – Glue the wrapped chocolates either the to smallest or largest flaps.

18 – Attach the dollar rosettes to the either the smallest or largest flaps (depending on which ones you used for the chocolates).

That’s it. Hold it together, add your candies, and pop on the lid.

This is such a fun Cricut gift idea! When you lift the lid off the box, it “explodes” with candy (or whatever you’ve filled it with) for a fun surprise. Who wouldn’t love receiving such an amazing handmade gift?

Remember that many Cricut projects you see on our site or around the web can be made with a Cricut Joy even if they’re using one of the larger machines. The Joy has a maximum cutting width of 4.5 inches, but if you use Cricut Smart Materials, you can cut continuous shapes up to 4 feet long and repeated cuts up to 20 feet long (things like hearts and stars, for example).

DOORMATS

You might never have thought about making doormats with your die-cutting machine. But they are a really fun craft project that is perfect for your own home or to make as a gift.

Since they’re flat, you can store them easily – so you could even make one for each season/holiday. Welcome friends and family to your home right there at your front door. Also, if you are interested in selling your crafts, doormats sell really well!

We got this pencil box for only $1 at our local dollar store. These are great blanks to use with your Cricut machine!

Small boxes like this are great for organizing your kitchen or office. You can easily label them with vinyl designs using fonts and even add decorative cut files to make them extra cute.

CANVAS TOTE BAGS

We just love working with canvas tote bags like these. Of course, when it comes to tote bags, canvas isn’t your only option. We also really like to make projects with denim and faux leather tote bags too.

These are very affordable and take up very little space in your craft room. Tote bags personalized with someone’s name, monogram, or favorite sayings or hobbies make perfect gifts and sell really well too.

One of our favorite things about these tote bags is their versatility. Not only can you simply apply HTV to them as is, but you could also tie dye or dip dye them first to add another layer of design to them.

ONESIES

Who doesn’t love making adorable little baby gifts, such as embellishing these cute little blank onesies? Not only are they affordable, but since they’re small, they don’t take up much space and they don’t use much vinyl. These are great crafting blanks to use up those vinyl scraps you have saved!

MUGS

So many people we know collect mugs, making these another of our favorite blanks to use for vinyl crafting! There are so many ways to decorate and customize a mug, and once again, they are great surfaces for using up those vinyl scraps.

FRAMES

We LOVE to make signs with blank frames. In fact, we love making these projects so much that we have our very own course on how to build your own frames. Our Building Wooden Frames Masterclass is FREE with your yearly Makers Gonna Learn membership and it’s so worth it!

Like these other vinyl blanks we have shared with you, frames don’t take up a lot of space and they make fantastic items to sell or give as gifts. You can add cut files, sentiments, photos, and so much more to customize them and they make great home decor accents.

One of our favorite things to do with frames is to take some patterned paper and place it inside the frame. Then, we add a vinyl quote or sentiment on the glass itself.

TUMBLERS

Along with mugs, we also really enjoy customizing tumblers. Add a name, monogram, logo, or other favorite design to make your tumbler stand out from everyone else’s (and keep track of it!).

You can find these many places – our favorite brand is Ozark Trail from Walmart. They come in a variety of colors. We find that having a base color there makes it much easier to then make them into really pretty glitter tumblers.

T-SHIRTS

Of course, t-shirts are a really popular blank to use with your Cricut machine and some iron-on vinyl. In fact, this is often the project that draws people into die-cutting in the first place!

There are just so many different colors and styles of t-shirts and then, so many different ways to customize them with your HTV. They’re inexpensive and don’t use much vinyl, making them economical to make for gifts or to sell.

You could make up a whole set for a sports team, bridal party, corporate event, and so many others!

One thing to remember – you must purchase a good brand. We love Comfort Colors and Next Level. The quality of the shirt can make such a huge difference in the results you get in your final project.

FLOUR SACK TOWELS

We always keep plenty of blank flour sack towels on hand to use for our Cricut vinyl projects. One of our favorite things to do with these towels is to cover the back of a frame with it and then apply heat transfer vinyl onto it. You’re going to love that technique!

Of course, a perfect use for these towels is simply to embellish the towels to use in your kitchen or bathroom. There are so many fun designs that work really well for that! Like most of our other suggested blanks, these are inexpensive, easy to store, and are great ways to use up vinyl scraps.

Flour sack towels are one of our favorite blanks to use with Cricut simply because of their versatility. If you sew, you can even sew a couple together and make your own pillows!

Working with canvas pillow cases is a great way to make some custom home decor items for almost any room in your house. These pillow cases are flat and so they take up little space if you are wanting to stock up on them.

And, if you are selling your crafts, shipping a pillow case as opposed to an entire pillow is easier and cheaper. Much like the canvas tote bags, you can also take the canvas pillow covers and tie dye or dip dye them for another look too.

But, remember that you can use prestuffed pillows as well. If you find a good deal on them and want to use them, definitely grab those up! If canvas isn’t your thing, you can use any kind of pillowcase you want to create some amazing projects.

Just think about how sweet it would be to add this bib to a baby shower gift – or once you see how easy it is to make one, you might just want to make a whole batch of them! Goodness knows, parents of little ones can always use more bibs!

Supplies:

Gray Fat Quarter Bundle

Charcoal Heat transfer Vinyl

Sewing Clips

Sewing Machine

Gray Sewing Thread

Cricut Maker & rotary blade/housing

Favorite Weeding Tool

Steps:

Import cut files into design space and size. (I sized my newborn bib at 11” high and then the “how much I love you” cut file accordingly)
If you do not need a seam allowance guide, delete the top layer of the bib cut file.
Duplicate the remaining bib layer and flip/reflect the duplicated layer. (you’ll have one bib layer that is reflected and one that is not)
Press make it
Mirror your mat with the “how much I love you” cut file
Connect to your machine
If your bib mats are cutting first, select the “cotton” material setting
Load your rotary blade in your maker
Place one piece of fabric on your fabric grip mat. Load mat into machine and press your flashing cricut button. Once finished cutting, remove the mat from your machine and the fabric from your mat.
Place the next piece of fabric on your fabric grip mat. Load mat into machine. Refer to design space to make sure that your machine is cutting the 2nd bib layer mat. Press the flashing cricut button. Once finished cutting, remove the mat from your machine and the fabric from your mat.
Using your standard grip mat, place your heat transfer vinyl (iron-on vinyl) shiny side down on your mat in the top left corner.
Refer back to design space. Select everyday iron-on as your material setting.
Remove your rotary blade from clamp B in your maker and replace with your fine point blade
Load your mat into your machine and press the flashing cricut button
Once cut is complete, remove your mate and weed the excess vinyl from your image.
Working with your bib fabric, layer the fabrics on top of each other (right sides facing each other). Line up perfectly and pin or clip together.
Sew around the bib using a ¼” seam allowance. Leave a 3” opening at the bottom or side of your bib so that you can flip right side out.
Notch convex seam curves and clip concave seam curves. Make sure not to clip your sewn seam.
Flip bib right side out
Press bib using an iron or mini easy press.
Make sure to fold the opened part of your bib in so that you can press the seams allowing for easier closure of your bib.
Pin or clip the opening of your bib
Using a ⅛” seam allowance, Run a top stitch around the entire bib closing up the 3” opening.
Make a ½”-¾” buttonhole on the longer strap of the bib.
Knot the bib strap that does not have the buttonhole and slip the knot through the buttonhole
Place your HTV graphic on the correct side of our bib. Apply heat with your easy press and let cool before removing the transfer sheet.
